The Room May Change
The building remained the dream. It just stopped being the starting line.
August 2026
For much of The Celluloid Lounge’s early development, the path seemed straightforward: first find the room, then build what belonged inside it.
We searched for a permanent home in Coral Springs. We studied floor plans, seat counts, parking requirements, construction costs, and all the practical details that turn an idea into a physical place.
The room mattered. It still does.
But as the search continued, a larger truth began to come into focus:
The Celluloid Lounge was never only the room.
It was the films chosen with intention. The feeling before the lights went down. The people gathered together. The conversations that continued after the credits.
Those things did not have to wait for a permanent address.
In August 2026, the path widened. The Celluloid Lounge began exploring how screenings, filmmaker events, repertory programming, and shared moviegoing experiences could happen in existing spaces while the search for a permanent home continued.
This was not the end of the original dream. It was a decision to begin building the experience, audience, and community before building the walls around them.
What Changed
The venue became one part of the story—not the whole story.
Beginning without a permanent theater could create something a floor plan alone never could: real experience.
- Gather an audience around thoughtfully chosen films.
- Learn what the community responds to.
- Build relationships with filmmakers, rights holders, and venues.
- Create a history through actual screenings and events.
- Let the eventual theater grow from something already alive.
The room may change from one event to the next. The reason for gathering does not.
Why It Mattered
TCL could begin before opening day.
The permanent theater remained the long-term dream. But it no longer had to be the first proof that The Celluloid Lounge could exist.
Each screening, conversation, relationship, and lesson could become part of its foundation.
The building is part of The Celluloid Lounge.
The building is not all of The Celluloid Lounge.
