TCL Was Never the Walls

A realization about what The Celluloid Lounge is—and when it truly begins.

September 17, 2026

I’ve never really thought of The Celluloid Lounge as a brand. To me, it was always a place I wanted to build—a theater with its own walls, its own screen, and its own atmosphere. Somewhere people could discover a film, experience it together, and stay afterward to talk about what they had just seen.

But somewhere along the way, I became so focused on finding TCL a physical home that I started confusing the building with the idea.

The truth is, TCL was never the walls.

It was always the movies, the people, and what happens when they gather in the same room.

Having our own theater is still the dream. It always will be. But maybe The Celluloid Lounge doesn’t have to wait for the building to exist.

Maybe we build the audience first.

Maybe we create the experiences now.

And maybe, one screening at a time, we’re already building the best possible version of TCL.

Why It Mattered

The building remained the dream. It just stopped being the beginning.

This note captured the shift from waiting for The Celluloid Lounge to have a permanent address to recognizing that its programming, audience, and shared experiences could begin now.

Film is the ritual. People are the atmosphere.
